At the end of my advanced trimix class I was lucky to get to finish the course by doing the last few dives at Isle Royale. We dove the Kamloops, the Emperor, and the Chester Congdon. Isle Royale has some of the best ship wreck diving in the world and the scenery above the surface is just as spectacular.
Isle Royale is located east of Grand Portage in Lake Superior. It reminds me of the boundary waters canoe area wilderness

Most of our dives were below 200 feet and so we used Trimix. Those of us diving on open circuit scuba brought along 2 full sets of twins with a 60+% helium mixture. We did our deepest dives off these helium rich mixtures and then we reblended and bagged gasses later to fill our tanks for other dives.
On this trip, our group was split between Ken Merryman's Hey Boy (the boat on the left), and Ron Benson's Deep Thought (on the right).
